9 Days Lhasa – Kathmandu overland explore Tour

Trip Itinerary

Day 01. Arrive in Holy Lhasa:3650meters above sea level
When you are arrive in Lhasa either from Flight or Train, your guide and driver will greet you welcome wishing put white scarf and take you to Lhasa city in your hotel,
Lhasa mean” place God”
Those who come from Airport to Lhasa, you can see the view of Yurlung Tsangpo river and valley ( Brahmaputra river) and Lhasa river with Lhasa valley,
Arriving in Lhasa, your guide can help to checking in hotel,after you can take a rest for get acclimatized to high altitude and need to drinking water,if you are without problem on a altitude sickness, feel to go out, you can go to Barkhor street is best option to do easy walking for first day altitude, where you will enjoy local pilgrims and nice photos of the Jokhang temple and local pilgrims peoples from Tibet ,
For those new comers in Tibet, the best option is get good acclimatized to high altitude and having a good rest in hotel your hotel for drinks lot of water.

Day 02. Lhasa city sightseeing tour: Drepung monastery and Sera monastery:
Today morning, you will visit to Drepung monastery, Drepung monastery was founded by Jamyang Choje Tashi Palden in 1416, which is one of the great three Gelukpa monasteries and the largest Buddhist monastery of Tibet, you will visit to Ganden palace,Main Assembly Hall, the biggest monastery Kitchen ,and Dratsang( Colleges)

Afternoon, we will continue visit to Sera monastery, which is the second largest Buddhist monastery and one of the great three monasteries of Tibet,
This monastery was founded in 1419 by Jamyang Choje Sakya Yeshe, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. In this monastery You can visit to main assembly hall, the three colorful sand mandala, the Buddhist religious scriptures printing house,
The hot attraction to see is monks debates in debating courtyard at 3 pm to 5 pm o’ clock,

Day 03. Lhasa city sightseeing tour: Potala palace and Jokhang temple with Barkhor street,
In the morning, we will going to visit Potala palace, the Potala palace was built in 7th century by the 33rd great King Songtsen Gompo on the red hill, later in 17th century, the great 5th Dalai Lama reconstruction of Potala palace for present size of complex.
It has divided into two different palace. Red palace for religious center and White palace for Politics center, the 13 stories with one thousand rooms,
The winter palace and the residence of the Dalai lamas, the most valuable you can see in palace has the Gold tomb burial stupas of past Dalai lamas, the 7th century time mediation cave of the great king Songtsen Gompo, and many many cultural relics Buddhist statues, the thangkas , the old printing murals and the Buddhist textbooks,

Afternoon, we will visit to Holy Jokhang temple and Barkhor street,
Jokhang temple was built in 7th century by the 33rd great king Songtsen Gompo,it is located at the center of Lhasa,In order to promote the Buddhist religion. this is holiest Buddhist temple of Tibet, inside you can see holy sacred statue of Buddha Sakyamuni( present Buddha) at age of twelve, the many other Buddha’s and the Buddhist Master statues around in temple, and the old murals printings and the Thangkhas and the Buddhist scriptures,
Outside, you can see pilgrims doing prostrating in front of Temple and the pilgrages walking a clockwise circuit to temple,( A Buddhist people do clockwise circuit to holy places ,the holy mountains, the holy lakes,and buildings)
Where you can do kora together with pilgrims people and explores the Barkhor street,

Day 04. Drive from Lhasa to Samya monastery,130 km approx 3 hours ,altitude is 3580 m
Today we will drive to Samya monastery along the Lhasa river and Yurlung Tsangpo river, and the sand dines around the road side on the way, to enjoy the landscape of Yurlung valley with sand dines and green trees,
Afternoon , we will visit to Samya monastery,
Samya monastery was built in 8th century by the great king Trisong Detsen and Guru Rinpoche( Padmasambhava), the monastery is mandala design with five wisdom Buddha’s,
Padamasambhava and Santarakista who were instrumental in the introduction of Buddhism and monastic ordination lineage to Tibet,which was conducted at samya .
The monastery has three stories building with three different style(1st floor of Tibetan style,2nd floor of Han style and 3rd floor of Indian style)
After finish to sightseeing, you will hike up to Hipori, nice to short hike and you have beautiful view of whole valley and the amazing view of the monastery which is shape of universal manadala ,
Overnight atSamya( samya monastery hotel)

Day 05. Drive from Samya to Shigatse, 340 km approx 9 to 10 hours, altitude is 3880m.
Today we will drive to shigatse Via Gyantse, on the way you can have a glimpse view of Yamdruk Yumtso lake .this is the holy lake surrounded by plenty of snow capped mountains.special views of the holy Mount.NyenchenKangsar 7191 meters above sea level,
Later, we will drive pass and enjoy the karo-la pass 5039 m ,karo-la glacier and Simi-la pass 4430m,Manak Dam lake, you have pray flag hang on the top of pass, then we will
continue to gyantse, historically Tibet’s third largest city,we can visit the famous Kumbum stupa and the Pelkor monastery and enjoy the view of fortress.
After sightseeing, we will drive to shigatse for two hours,the second largest city of Tibet and biggest city of shigatse prefecture, on the way may stop at traditional barley mill,
Overnight at Shigatse( Manasarovar hotel 3 star)

Day 06. Drive from Shigatse to Shager/ New Tingri,240 km approx 4 to 5 hours,altitude is 4260 m.
In the morning, first we will going to visit Tashilhunpo monastery,
Tashilhunpo monastery was founded by first Dalai lama( Gonden Drupa ) in 1447, the largest monastery of shigatse prefecture, the seat of Tibet’s second highest incarnation of the Penchen lamas .In this monastery,you can see the well preserved largest gilded statue of Gyalwa Jampa( future Buddha)26 meters height and 16.8 meters wide,this statue was built by 9th Penchen lama in 1941, the gold tomb stupa of the past Penchen lamas, the main assembly hall and the Buddhist scriptures and the many other statue of Buddha’s and the Buddhist masters,
Then you will drive continue the journey to Shager/ New Tingri, the entrance of Qomolangma National nature reserve and the highest pass Gyatso- la pass 5220 meters and weather is permit you can see the first view of Mt.Everest and other himalaya mountains on the way to Shager/ New Tingri,
Overnight at New Tingri/ Shager( Qomolangma hotel or Shager grand hotel)

Day 07. Drive from Shager/ New Tingri to Rongbuk monastery,100 km approx 4 to 5 hours, altitude is 5100 m,
After finish early breakfast, we will drive to first mountain pass ( Gyawu- la pass 5198m) to see the sunrise on the Mt.Everest and the himalaya mountains, you can enjoy the stunning scenery.if weather permits.you can see the panorama views of himalaya range with the world highest peak and four peaks above 8000 meters, the Mt. Everest, the Mt.Lhotse,the Mt.Makalu,the Mt.ChoOyu,the Mount.Shishabangma,
Then you will drive continue descend to Eco bus station ,from there you will need to go in Eco bus to Rongbuk monastery for Half hour,
You may even see the majestic golden summit of Mt.Everest at sunset and sunrise.

Day 08. Drive from Rongbuk monastery to Kyirong,340 km approx 9 to 10 hours, altitude is 2600 meters .
You can wake up to the first sunrise shining over the pyramid- shaped summit of imposing Mt.Everest . Grab you camera for an epic shot and enjoy a beautiful view of Mt. Everest from Rongbuk monastery area,
Exploring this world highest mountain and the world highest Buddhist monastery, if you like to visit monastery and experience the unparalleled tranquility and harmony there,Monks and Nuns praying and chatting together in assembly hall,
Then you will drive few hours to Old Tingri, Quick stop in Old Tingri for buy snacks ,water and Lunch of picnic at Pyiko- tso lake,
On the way you can see the view of Mount.Shishabangma and other snow mountains with blue color of Pyiko tso lake, Having a picnic lunch at near Pyiko tso lake ,
Then drive ascend to last mountain pass Gongthang- la pass 5236 m ,and going down valley to Kyirong ,where is surrounded by snow capped mountains with the forest,
Overnight at Kyirong core( Hotel)

Day 09. Drive from Kyirong core to Rawsu,25 km approx. one hour,
In the morning, we will drive down valley to Sino- Nepal border,25 km from Kyirong to Rawsu border.after going through the immigration, Nepalese guide will pick you at border and drive to Kathmandu.the road to Kathmandu is bumpy but the scenery is beautiful,
